We are pleased to announce that Sarah Asplin QC has been appointed a Deputy High Court Judge of the Chancery Division.
Norman Palmer and Oliver Hilton recently acted for the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre it its application for for the return of aboriginal remains forming part of the Natural History Museum's collection. Gilead Cooper QC was also instructed on behalf of the TAC when the museum commenced its own action in the Chancery Division in relation to probate issues in the claim. The dispute was eventually resolved by mediation.

Geoffrey Vos QC has taken office as Chairman of the Bar Council.
In October Mr Justice Lewison handed down his decision in Hodgson & Ors v Toray Textiles Europe Ltd & Ors [2006] EWHC 2612 (Ch), a case concerning equalization of pension benefits and deemed consent in which Sarah Asplin QC and Fenner Moeran appeared for the trustees.
We are proud to announce that Charlotte Downs has been awarded an MA in Canon Law from the University of London.

We are pleased to announce that Professor Norman Palmer has accepted an invitation to join chambers.
Norman Palmer practices mainly in the area of cultural property, personal property and commercial transactions. He advises governments, financial institutions, trading corporations and leading museums. He is standing counsel to the National Gallery of Australia and an honorary member of Seven Wentworth, the chambers of David Jackson QC in Sydney. In 2000 he was appointed Chairman of the Illicit Trade Advisory Panel, and in 2001 Chairman of the Treasure Valuation Committee. He is a member of the Spoliation Advisory Panel. In 2006 he was appointed CBE for services to art and to law.
Norman Palmer has written or edited some of the principal practitioner works within his field (eg Bailment, Museums and the Holocaust, The Recovery of Stolen Art, Art Loans, and various titles in Halsbury's Law of England, including Bailment, Carriers, Damages and Tort). He is a Visiting Professor of Law at King's College London and holds degrees from the Universities of Oxford and Geneva (docteur honoris causa).
We are also pleased to announce that Paul Chaisty QC has been appointed a Deputy High Court Judge authorised to sit in the Chancery and Queen's Bench Division.
Richard de Lacy QC will be conducting an advanced workshop on the incorporation into UK law of the UNCITRAL model law on cross-border insolvencies on 27 September 2006 at the Millennium Hotel, Knightsbridge, London. This master class, conducted with Alison Deeth, partner in Herbert Smith LLP, will be a detailed case study of the Cross Border Insolvency Regulations 2006. Paul Chaisty QC and Ian Watson have now settled in to Chambers.
Geoffrey Vos QC acted for Apple Corps in its high profile litigation against Apple Computer. The judgment is expected soon.
Chambers has been continuing its successful programme of seminars. In March, we held a commercial litigation seminar. The speakers were Edward Bannister QC, Paul Chaisty QC, and Andrew Twigger. Copies of the papers can be downloaded from the 'News' heading above. We are holding a trusts seminar in July.
Chambers is also undertaking a series of 'road shows': Andrew Cosedge, Gilead Cooper, Ian Watson and Oliver Hilton are talking on the trustee's duty of disclosure. Sarah Asplin QC, Andrew Child and Fenner Moeran are talking on trustees and conflicts of interest. Firms interested in hosting such a roadshow should contact the clerks.
Sarah Asplin QC also spoke on the interaction of contract and trusts in unit trusts and pension schemes to the STEP Caribbean Conference in Bermuda held on 10-12 April.

We are pleased to announce that Ian Watson has accepted an invitation to join chambers.
Ian was called to the New York Bar in 1993 and practised at a leading New York firm with an international private client practice before joining another leading US firm in London in 1997. Immediately prior to his call to the Bar of England & Wales in 2005, he was also a solicitor and a partner in a leading international private client firm of solicitors and US attorneys.
He has practised in London since 1997 primarily in the area of trusts, wills and estates and related US and UK taxation, especially in a cross-border context (primarily but not exclusively between the US and the UK). In addition to undertaking traditional domestic Chancery advice and advocacy in trusts, wills, estates and property, he specialises in personal and tax planning for high-net-worth individuals, families, fiduciaries and financial institutions in the US, the UK and internationally and advises on integrated US/UK estate planning. His practice extends to advising on cross-border tax, reporting and compliance issues with respect to trusts outside the UK or US with beneficiaries or income subject to tax in those jurisdictions.

We are pleased to announce that Paul Chaisty Q.C. has accepted an invitation to join chambers.
Paul took silk in 2001, and has practised from chambers in Manchester for 20 years. He specialises in commercial and chancery litigation, company and insolvency.
He is listed in the current edition of Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession 2006, as one of the top chancery and commercial silks practising in Manchester. Paul is described as "clever and incisive", praised for his "tremendous powers of concentration" and is recommended as "standing out among the silks as a respected opponent".

We are pleased to announce that Geoffrey Vos Q.C. has been appointed as a Judge of the Jersey and Guernsey Courts of Appeal. He will sit for approximately 2 weeks per year.
Geoffrey Vos Q.C. was also recently awarded the Chambers Chancery Silk of the Year 2005.
